“So that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation in which you shine like stars." Philippians 2: 15.”

The Methodist Church in Kenya recognizes the importance of nurturing young people into mature, Christian adults and seeks to provide youth activities to facilitate young people on their social and spiritual journey through the challenging years of their youth.

The Youth Department of the Methodist Church is responsible for the development of young people up to the age of 25. Ways of working vary from synod to synod, and as resources allow, but in most places you will find youth groups meeting in local churches for worship, fellowship, teaching, training and service.

Circuits and Synods will occasionally hold events bringing together large numbers of young people for rallies, sports activities, drama presentations, talent contests and many other activities. At least once every year a national event is held bringing together Christian young people from all over Kenya, parts of Uganda and Tanzania.

It is also true that young people can contribute much to the life of the Church and the community and so the Methodist Church is encouraging more people under the age of 25 into positions of leadership within the Youth Department and other areas of church life. Seminars and workshops on the theme of leadership have been held in many synods already and from 8-11th December 2005 the Youth Department will be holding a national training event on Leadership Skills for youth officials from every synod.

Young people come with enthusiasm, fresh ideas, and are ideally placed to help the church present an authentic Christian message to the ever changing contemporary world in which we live.

Every year a special week of activities takes place to highlight the place of our young people within the life of our church. This year Youth Week runs from 22nd to the 27th of August with dedicated Youth services taking place on 28th August. The theme that has been adopted for this year is Shine Like Stars and is taken from Philippians 2:15.

The organization of the Youth Department is the responsibility of a committee of leaders at local, circuit, synod and national level who can be contacted about issues relating to the Youth Fellowship.
