JSS & Youth
Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” – Matthew 19: 14.
The Methodist Church in Kenya is committed to sharing the story of Jesus and the love of God with children and young people so that they reach the stage when they can make a personal commitment to the Christian faith. To this end you will find a Junior Sunday School within nearly every Methodist Church in Kenya.
The Sunday School is run by volunteers who endeavor to lead the children each Sunday in a range of activities, songs, Bible readings and teaching. The Methodist Church in Kenya is also committed to support these volunteer teachers with training and resources.
At the present time a video of recently held training sessions for Sunday School Teachers has been produced and is available from the Methodist Conference Office through the Junior Sunday School Co-ordinator. A Junior Sunday School Teacher’s training manual is in draft form and due to be published later in 2005.
We are also in the process of publishing a Junior Sunday School lectionary of readings so that each Methodist Junior Sunday School in Kenya will be following a co-ordinated selection of Bible passages throughout the year. A future aim is to supplement the reactionary readings with helpful lesson plans and other resources related to the theme of the readings.
Training events for Sunday School Teachers take place regularly in each Synod and occasionally at a national level. Please contact the JSS Co-ordinator through the Conference Office for details of the next training event in your area.
Each year the Junior Sunday School holds a special series of events in Junior Sunday School Week, this year running from 28th November to 3rd December culminating in special services on Sunday 4th December. Contact your local Methodist Church for details of their activities.
